Position Announcement


Utah Valley University is seeking an Aircraft Maintenance Lead Mechanic. The Aircraft Maintenance Lead reports to the Aircraft Maintenance Manager, and is responsible for assisting with scheduling and task assignments of maintenance technicians to achieve high operational safety, efficiency, and production in the maintenance of the aircraft fleet.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • The Aircraft Maintenance Lead reports to the Aircraft Maintenance Manager and assists in the scheduling and task assignments of maintenance technicians to achieve high operational safety, efficiency, and production in the Aviation Repair Station. They ensure that all technicians perform work in compliance to all FAR Part 145 Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Control Manual, and Training Manual requirements and standards outlined under the UVU Aviation Repair Station Certificate.
  • The Maintenance Lead oversees daily project flow. Communicates with and informs (keeping up to date) the Maintenance Manager, and as needed the Quality Assurance Manager, the progress and status of all projects/events taking place within the Repair Station work center. Assists and ensures that the work orders are completed in the system of all required records, forms, and logbook entries required by applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Manufacturers Manuals, and the Repair Station Manuals.
  • Performs all duties as an aircraft maintenance technician on assigned tasks or assists technicians as needed to support maintenance production schedules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and completion of two years of education from an accredited institution from a recognized trade school plus two years apprenticeship experience related to the Summary of Duties and FAA Certificated Aircraft Maintenance Technician with A&P ratings (Airframe and Powerplant).

Preferred Qualifications
Three to five years of Aircraft Maintenance experience and supervision preferred.
Current Inspection Authorization Rating preferred.

Licenses or Certifications
Meet all FAA and Safety Requirements. Must hold a valid FAA issued A&P Certificate.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities


Knowledge
  • Knowledge in initiating purchase requests for stock as required.
  • Knowledge in performing maintenance on assigned projects.
  • Knowledge to ensure that all necessary entries are properly executed on the repair station's maintenance forms and work orders.
  • Knowledge of airframe and propulsion systems operations and maintenance practices.
Skills
  • Skills in oral and written communication maintenance/learning environment.
  • Skills in maintaining the premises of the repair station in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Skills in maintaining all hangars, shop, equipment, and tools in a serviceable working condition, assuring that periodic checks and calibrations are made on special tools and test equipment, and current records are maintained of those tests and calibrations.
  • Skills in maintaining the preservation of all units or parts during the work process, installation and storage.
Abilities
  • Ability to repair and maintain aircraft.
  • Ability to verify compliance with FAA regulation, airworthiness directives, inspections and accompanying paperwork.
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Power Plant License.
  • Ability to assist and supervise crews on each shift.
  • Ability to indoctrinate personnel in observing the safety precautions relevant to the functions for which they may be utilized.
