Position Information

Hiring Department: Facilities Management

Posting End Date: Open until filled.

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Non-exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Essential Functions

Interprets and assigns work order requirements to personnel.



Responsible for maintenance and general repairs of campus buildings and infrastructure.



Tracks projects and procurement of materials.



Creates, prints, and closes work orders and assumes control of the shop in the absence of the supervisor.



Assigns duties and assumes role of Team Leader in projects.



Estimates labor and material cost; reports the estimate to superior and work order initiator.



Repairs and installs fencing throughout campus.



Performs minor welding and soldering repairs and priming handrails and bicycle racks and performing other minor welding tasks.



Inspects in-progress and completed work.



Inspects roofs, windows, walls, concrete, and drains for water leaks and perform repairs as needed.



Inspects and maintains generators.



Installs and repairs door hardware.



Performs duties of Maintenance Worker I when needed.



Must be available on an "On Call" basis.



Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.



Complies with all State and University policies.



Other duties may be assigned.



Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

and

Experience: Two years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. May be required to travel to off-campus UTEP sites

The noise level for this work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions and extreme heat risk of electrical shock and vibration
