Position Summary:

North Seattle College is recruiting for a full-time Maintenance Mechanic 2. This is the journeyman level position that will perform a variety of skilled work in the operations, maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, mechanical facilities and equipment on a 68-acre college campus with buildings totaling 1,000,000 sqft. The candidates must be able to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as electrical, mechanical and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution. Monitor safety, fire protection and environmental control equipment to ensure the building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition. Respond to service request and secure necessary assistance; take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions. Candidate must be able to operate hand tools and other shop equipment. Perform welding and metal fabrication. Candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team of sub-journey to master level positions across several skilled trades.
This is a full-time, classified position, eligible for overtime, and subject to an alternate work schedule.

- Essential Functions
- Independently or under direction or with sub-journey level workers, repair and remodel buildings, frames walls; hang drywall, tape, finish and paint drywall; install countertops and cabinets, bookcases, tables, benches; hangs and repair doors and door hardware.
- Build and install cabinetry, replace windows, install tile. Install and maintain plumbing, fan motors, pumps, door hardware and closures, sinks, valves, fire extinguishers.
- Perform minor electrical repairs, install outlets and switches, change ballasts and lighting control boards, bulbs and fixtures.
- Conduct preventative maintenance program for assigned machinery and equipment; change air filters, lubricate motors, change belts, and other minor HVAC related work.
- Perform sidewalk section replacement and other minor concrete work. Restripe parking areas, conduct interior and exterior painting, remove debris and sludge from gutters and reseal.
- Understand and apply safety rules, building and construction codes, recycling and environmental regulations, lock-out/tag-out procedures. Operate hand tools, power tools, small engine operated tools, fixed woodworking and metal working machines, hydraulic lifts, forklifts and pallet jacks after training and certification.
- Lift 80 lbs from ground to shoulder height.
- Operate motor vehicles.
- Assemble or assist in fabrication of equipment, materials and furniture constructed in trade shops according to project requirements, other duties as assigned.
- Required Education, Experience & Abilities
- High School Diploma. Four (4) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, plumbing, construction or repair work. Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
- Preferred Qualifications
- License or completed certified training program in one or more skilled trades, especially electrical, HVAC and carpentry.
- License or completed certified training program in one or more skilled trades, especially mechanical and carpentry.
- Demonstrated or documented experience, skills or training preferred.
