Detailed Description:
This recruitment is open to current University of San Diego employees only. Only current USD employees are eligible to apply and be considered for this position.

The Division of Student Affairs seeks an individual with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism and a strong interest in working at a mission driven, faith-based institution. The role of the Maintenance and Repair Technician in supporting students and the USD Community responsibilities of the position are significantly tethered in the university's contemporary Roman Catholic mission and commitment to creating an equitable, welcoming community for all.

The position is responsible for ongoing facility maintenance and cleaning and completing repairs on equipment. Duties include fixing machinery, inspecting buildings to confirm safety standards and working closely with Facilities Management to schedule necessary repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Labor: Preventative Maintenance, Maintenance and Repair:
  • Provide preventive maintenance and service repairs coordination for the Wellness facility machines and equipment.
    • Assess, evaluate and prioritize daily tasks to minimize safety issues
    • Order parts and replace/repair as necessary
    • Execute minor repairs that need to be done in a timely manner that are not scheduled as a priority in facilities management
    • Fix potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.
  • Daily and weekly cleaning of facilities including but not limited to:
    • Hose and/or air blow pool decks weekly
    • Hose and/or air blow basketball courts weekly
    • Set up and take down of gym floor covers for events
  • Manage storage areas, laundry and ice area including but not limited to:
    • Maintaining clean and systematic equipment storage areas
    • Maintaining laundry and ice machines and ensure these are kept clean

Administrative:
  • Manage inventory storage control and equipment ordering for the department. The inventory includes a wide variety of materials including:
    • Fitness equipment
    • Office equipment and supplies
    • Other equipment related to the Wellness facilities umbrella
  • Leads resolution of mechanical operational and resource-related issues that arise during shift so that employee and facility operations productivity and accessibility are not negatively affected.
  • Establishes and achieves maintenance goals to drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage TMA inventory tracking, labeling and record keeping.
  • Liaison with approved Maintenance Suppliers to troubleshoot and problem solve equipment issues.
  • Report unresolvable maintenance issues and safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Perform cost analysis on maintenance and repair projects and communicate budget needs to supervisor in an effort to support the department's budget.

Safety and Compliance:
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly inspections of area as needed to assess equipment/facility safety and function.
  • Assist in managing vendor/equipment warranties.
  • Ensure any equipment that is not in safe working order is removed from the area or clearly marked as restricted and work with leadership and related areas/vendors to resolve issues to get equipment operational as soon as possible.
  • Maintain usable and safe check out equipment.

Special Conditions of Employment:
  • Work will be conducted between Fitness Centers, Sports Center, or other Wellness umbrella facilities as needed
  • Hours may vary during non-semester time periods. Willing to work flexible hours as repair projects dictate.
  • Additional assignments may be seasonal, ad hoc or ongoing, depending on the project.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • At least two years of related experience required.
  • Maintenance knowledge of both digital/electronic cardio fitness machines and resistance fitness machines.
  • Secondary handyman skills in the areas of carpentry, electronics, mechanical equipment and sports equipment repair.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced maintenance and repair knowledge of specific branded fitness equipment (e.g. PreCor, Woodway and Nautilus or other brands related to the Wellness umbrella).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid driver's license required.

Performance Expectations - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to initiate, coordinate, oversee and complete various projects on own initiative.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and human relations skills.
  • Ability to work with multitude of students and university personnel.
  • Strong organizational techniques with the ability to manage multiple tasks and programs.
  • Flexible in performance and willingness to make changes as projects change.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) as well as Google Docs/Drive.
  • Demonstrated practice of centering diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in one's work including an ongoing commitment to personal learning and development in this area.

$24.04 - $25.04 per hour; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
